Asset Tracking | Fleet Management
Monitoring the location and status of vehicles and equipment, usually via GPS or telematics devices, to better allocate and secure fleet assets.
Asset tracking is the practice of equipping high‑value equipment (trailers, containers, generators, heavy machinery, tools, etc.) with GPS‑enabled or sensor-equipped devices that report real‑time location and operating status via cellular or satellite networks to a central system.
Asset‑tracking software presents data on assets, lets users define geofences, and captures utilization metrics such as engine hours, run duration and idle time. Historical reports may present utilization patterns, allowing fleet managers to make data‑informed decisions around preventive maintenance and optimal resource allocation.
Adopted across sectors—transportation, logistics, construction, utilities, food distribution, mining and more—asset tracking improves utilization and aids in asset oversight and management.
