Introduction

Happy International Women’s Day! Let’s raise a glass to all the phenomenal women out there who are crushing it in every field, especially those who are breaking barriers and making waves in the world of technology!

Even though we’ve made some major strides, women in tech still face unique challenges and hurdles. As a woman working in tech, I get asked a lot of questions about my experience and perspective. In this blog post, I’m going to answer three of the most commonly asked questions.

My goal? To inspire and empower other women who are navigating their careers in this dynamic and ever-changing field. Let’s do this!

What is your advice to women looking to enter tech?

If you’re a woman looking to break into the tech industry, my most valuable advice would be to “embrace agility.” The relationship between tech and agility is beautiful and symbiotic — they are intertwined, which allows them to thrive in an ever-changing landscape.

By embracing agility, you’ll be able to learn and adapt quickly, welcome change, collaborate well with others, and remain open to feedback and continuous improvement. Agility emphasizes flexibility, adaptability, and collaboration – all essential traits in an industry that is always evolving.

Think of it this way: being agile is like having the grace of a ninja and the humor of a comedian, enabling you to navigate challenges with ease. In the tech sector, where things move at lightning speed, possessing the ability to be agile is the ultimate superpower!

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

This reminds me of the words that are so deeply ingrained in me by my parents: “Sometimes, looking down is just as important as looking up.”

In simpler terms, it’s essential to balance our aspirations and appreciation. Aspiration involves aiming for success and striving for new heights, which is the “looking up” part of the equation. However, it’s equally important to maintain a sense of appreciation, which is the “looking down” part of the equation. It means finding contentment and joy in the here and now, rather than constantly striving for more.

The concept of looking up and down in life revolves around embracing the entire range of human experiences, including both the highs and lows and charting a course that aligns with our unique values and sense of purpose.

Which female leader inspires you and why?

Amy Molyneux (Cardata’s VP of Technology) is an endless source of inspiration for me. What I love most about Amy is her innate ability to see the bigger picture and break down complex problems into achievable solutions, making her an exceptional leader.

Amy’s leadership style is a powerful blend of intelligence, empathy, and grace. Her passion for what she does is infectious, and her determination to shatter barriers and pave the way for future generations is simply awe-inspiring.

It takes a special kind of person to see the potential in someone and take a risk on them, and Amy did just that for me. Amidst the uncertainty, she shines as the guiding light that steers me in the right direction.

Apart from her exceptional abilities, Amy’s fondness for cheese adds another dimension to her dynamic personality, reflecting her commitment to perfection. If I were, to sum up, Amy in a single word, it would be “Gouda” — she’s simply amazing!

Conclusion

Being a woman in tech presents unique challenges, but it’s also a highly rewarding experience. I believe that sharing our stories and raising awareness is crucial in promoting a more inclusive and diverse workplace.

Through my own experiences and the experiences of others, I’ve come to understand the importance of advocating for gender equality and striving for a more inclusive environment. I hope that my answers to these common questions have shed some light on what it’s like to be a woman in tech and inspired others to pursue their passions. Let’s continue to honor and celebrate the accomplishments of women globally, not only on International Women’s Day but every day.
